A blended family inherited this 1960’s mid century modern home with ocean and mountain views on mount Soledad. Both adults travel for work and wanted to transform this La Jolla residence into a weekend retreat from reality with a plan to eventually relocate there. The design had to be resilient, contemporary and provide a more open layout where their family and guests could come together. Expansions included adding an office, a laundry room, and a guest pool bath.
Design highlights include: a revamped pool area made to feel like a spa resort, la cantina folding glass doors connect the living room to the pool area and merge the outdoors with the indoors, a custom 14 foot kitchen island, Mia Cucina Italian cabinetry and innovative appliances like the convection steam oven were added to the kitchen, a new fireplace and large windows now frame the 90 degree mountains and ocean views in their original sunken living room, and we expanded the master bedroom windows with sliding glass doors to open to an easy access terrace leading directly to their lower level gym and bath.
